Genus: Liasis
Two large to very large spp. with head scales enlaged to form symmetrical plates, heat-sensory pits present on some lower labial scales but none in rostral, 1 (rarely 2) loreal scale, and pattern absent; no blotches,stripes or spots. Restricted in Australia to tropical n., extending to NG and eastern Indonesia. Predominantly terrestrial, with one sp. semi-aquatic. They feed mainly on mammals and birds, thought reptiles are often taken. Lizards feature prominently in juv. diets.

Liasis olivaceus
Dark olive, yellowish brown to olive brown with pearly sheen. Ventral surfaces white to cream. Midody scales in 58 or more rows. Ssp. has 61-72 midbody scale rows and 321-377 venteral scales. Arid to subhumid areas of northern Australia. Often encountered along water courses, especially those associated with rocky areas, but generally in drier areas than L. mackloti. Ssp. extends from Coulomb Point, WA to western half of Qld. Terrestrial and rock-inhabiting. Adults can consume mammals as large as rock wallabies.
