Gehyra variegataCategory: Category 2
Care Sheets:
Genus: Gehyra
Seventeen small to moderate spp. with uniform granular scales. Digits flat with large semi-circular pads, all clawed with except the inner digit on each foot, each each claw arising from upper surface of pad. Sub-digital lamellae enlarged; divided on entire broad transverse series. The spp. are mainly identified by their divided or undivided sub-digital lamellae, number of pre-anal pores on male, pattern and build. Widespread in dry areas throughout Australia. The swift and agile arboreal and rock-inhabiting geckos shelter beneath loose bark and rock ex-foliations.
Gehyra variegata
Subdigital lamellae divided, Rostral scale has steeply sloping upper edges. Probably several spp. exist. Eastern populations are pale brown, usually with bands of paler dots overlaid with a blackish brown reticulum; irregular or arranged as transverse bars joined by longitudinal bars. Western populations are marked with with to pale brown spots, each partly enclosed by a dark, transversely oriented crescent or curved bar on its leading edge. Vast tracts of woodlands, shrub lands and rocky areas, where dry conditions prevail. Arboreal and rock-inhabiting, but often found under ground debris and in houses. With Binoe's Gecko(Heteronotia binoei), frequently the most abundant lizard wherever it occurs.
