Three described small, long-tailed spp. with small granular scales mixed with many scattered to longitudinally aligned enlarged tubercles. and angular, bird-like, clawed feet- claws arising from 3 scales, 1 above and 2 below. Lacking expanded lamellae. Widespread throughout Australia. Swift and active terrestrial geckos with tend to be extremely abundant, sheltering in soil cracks, under rocks, logs and surface debris. In many dry to arid zones virtually all suitable cover harbours resident geckos.
Heteronotia binoei
Slender and long-tailed, with dorsal tubercles scattered or arranged in irregular longitudinal rows. Pale greyish brown or reddish brown to almost black, with scattered to transversely aligned darker and paler spots, often arranged to form many narrow irregular bands. Occurs in dry open habitats over most of Australia, and often the most abundant reptile in many arid areas. Some populations are known to be parthenogenetic while others comprise normal male and female individuals. It seems likely that server spp. are included.
